Oregon needs great science teachers!
Innovative middle and high school teachers inspire broad student participation in science and technology career pathways, thus helping grow Oregon’s technology economy. They model what real science and engineering practices look and feel like in their classrooms. They also help students connect science content, experimentation and broader concepts to issues that are important to them.
For example, students in Bethel School District middle school classrooms build scale model wind turbines, test them, and compete to see who can generate the most renewable electrical power.
The University of Oregon’s new NSF Noyce ESPRIT program engages undergraduate science majors in science teaching and research; and financially supports their progress to teacher licensure and service in high need schools. We have over $35,000 in stipends and scholarships to award to each student who follows the ESPRIT pathway into science teaching.
