Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science

Welcome to our page! We are excited for you to join the UO SACNAS Student Chapter!

UO SACNAS exists to create a supportive community of STEM students at the University of Oregon. SACNAS is the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science. Students of all backgrounds are welcome to join our community in support of this mission.

UO SACNAS members participate in many types of STEM-related activities, including:

  • professional development events (résumé-writing workshops, networking activities, and workshops on getting involved in STEM research, crafting an “elevator talk” based on your research, etc.)
  • outreach with local middle schools and high schools
  • science-related fun and games
  • preparation for SACNAS (or other) conference attendance

Students interested in an executive board/leadership position in SACNAS should contact Jim Prell or Madi Scott for details on how to get involved.

  1. Hello, I just came to know about your organization through a UO professor working with STEM initiatives. I am thrilled to hear of your efforts. In my role of collaboration Director with the Bethel School district I have the privilege of working with under represented students in the fields of Science and Technology. I would love to learn more about ways I can expose students to career opportunities and adults working in those careers, and/or in your case, bring students to the university to learn more about STEM opportunities.

Hello, sorry for the late reply. We would love to be of service in any way that we can be; however, we are trying to regroup after the summer vacation. We will be ready to provide more opportunities for you later on in the year. For now I strongly recommend watching out for any STEM CORE (http://stemcore.uoregon.edu) or SPICE (http://oco.uoregon.edu/spice) events.
